When to visit Singapore?
The ideal time to visit Singapore is from December to June, as it’s a little cooler and less humid, than the summer months. Personally, I visited Singapore at the beginning of May and it was a little hot and humid, so I would recommend going in March or April.
Hawker market
A Hawket market is essentially a huge food court with lots of individual stands. There was a Hawker market across the street from my hotel. I went there often, as it had such a variety of food and I wanted to try everything!
I highly recommend to one since the food tastes amazing and it’s very well priced. There are quite a few around the city so make sure you go check one out!
Gardens by the Bay
The futuristic park, Gardens by the Bay is a must-see! You can visit this attraction during the day or at night time. I went during the evening to see the Garden lit up. The Garden covers a large area so there’s lots to see. You can also go up to the Skywalk, which allows you to walk over the garden.
Marina Bay Sands
You can find the luxurious Marina Bay Sands Hotel in downtown Singapore. This hotel is formed of three 55-storey towers, with the Sands Skypark spanning over all three towers. Personally, I didn’t stay at this hotel since it was out of my budget, but I’ve heard it’s very nice. Even if you aren’t going to stay at this hotel, you should still go down to look at it, as it has such cool architecture.
If you aren’t a guest at the hotel, you can access the Sands Skypark by paying an entrance fee. The view from the top of the Skypark is amazing and I’d recommend doing it!
Singapore Zoo
Getting from downtown Singapore to the Singapore Zoo was quite easy. I got there by car and it was a really nice drive. The roads were very clean and well maintained. It’s only about a 20-minute drive from the city and you get to see some lovely scenery on the way.
The Singapore Zoo is located at Mandai Wildlife Reserve. It’s spread over 26 hectares, so make sure to brig some good walking shoes!
The Zoo has an open feel to it. As you can see, the giraffes aren’t in huge enclosures, like many of their other animals. It was very different from other zoos I’d been to before but in a good way. It felt like I was walking in a rainforest and seeing animals, rather than being at a typical zoo.
An amazing experience I had at the Zoo was that I got to walk through the kangaroo enclosure. It wasn’t something I knew you could do before going, so it was really fun to experience.
They also have lots of little areas to admire the scenery and just to walk around, which I find is nice for when you want to take a little break.
I highly recommend you visit the zoo, but keep in mind it’s quite big, so plan to have enough time at the zoo and make sure you wear something comfortable.
Sentosa Island
To get to Sentosa Island, I took a cable car from Harbourfront Station. During the ride, you have some nice views but I’ll admit it was a little scary. I’m not one that’s afraid of heights but it’s not my favorite thing either. The cable car is a little wobbly and when you’re sitting with your back facing Sentosa Island you feel like you’re leaning backward. Now that’s just my perspective, but if you’re scared of heights, I would maybe recommend an alternative way to get to the island.
When I took the cable car there was a long line up to get on. I had to wait about 20-30 minutes, so keep that in mind when planning your day.
When I was on Sentosa Island, I mostly walked around and explored the area. One attraction I did do on the island though, was visit the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. Madame Tussauds is a museum filled with celebrity wax figures. I was blown away by the details of these wax sculptures. If you haven’t been to one before, you should definitely check it out!
Overall, Singapore was a great country to visit. There’s lots to see and do while you’re there. I didn’t know what to expect before going but I was pleasantly surprised and I’ll definitely be back one day! I hope you enjoyed this ultimate 48h guide to Singapore!
